VPT Reciprocating Compressors: Powerful, Flexible, Individually Customizable

VPT reciprocating compressors range from 60 HP (45 kW) to 20,500 HP (15,300 kW), with a variety of piston rod load capacities and reciprocating piston configurations.

VPT reciprocating compressors operate on the compression principle by displacing the operating medium (special gases) within a cylinder using a reciprocating piston.

VPT reciprocating compressors are designed for a wide range of applications, from fuel gas supply and gas production to CNG fueling, gas recovery, and much more.

The number of cylinder stages and cylinder sizes is determined by the respective process pressure conditions and can be designed accordingly within the available product series.

The design and configuration thus ensure economical continuous operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Both oil-free and oil-lubricated reciprocating compressors can be designed. Drive powers extend up to the 10 MW class, and suction volumes and flow rates of up to 1 million Nm³/h are possible. A pressure increase of up to 450 bar is achievable.

The compressor unit, including a drive motor, coolers, appropriate controls, and piping, is optimally coordinated on a chassis/skid design. On-site integration is thus easily possible, thereby reducing installation costs.

Connection to various drive units is also possible. Natural gas engines (720 to 1,800 rpm) and electric motors (750 to 1,800 rpm) can be manufactured and sized. This allows for adaptation to different and changing operating conditions, significantly increasing efficiency.

Performance Data: Process Gas, Gas Storage, and Gas Pipeline Compressors

  • Flow volume of approx. 250 to 1,000,000 m³/h
  • Vacuum possible < down to 100 mbar
  • Final pressure in multi-stage design up to 450 bar (a)

Modular Design for Maximum Flexibility and Long Service Life

An individually adapted equipment configuration is also available for capacity control, including our standard, variable-volume designs. This offers greater flexibility for potential changes in operating conditions. The modular design of our compressor units allows for easy reconfiguration and adjustments of frames and cylinders, providing increased flexibility at lower costs and maximum reliability.

The chassis and frame constructions are designed to minimize vibrations on all moving parts. Opposing reciprocating forces, for example on the crankshaft, are also balanced.

Thus, the occurring stresses and acting loads are evenly balanced to achieve a longer service life and high efficiency.

The water-cooled compressors and the control of the cooling circuits allow for moderate operating temperatures and absolute thermal stability, increasing, for example, valve life as well as the overall service life of the complete unit.
